Public Adjuster for Denied, Underpaid & Delayed Claims

Denied & Underpaid Insurance Claims

A denial or lowball estimate doesn't have to be the end. We review, reopen, and renegotiate claims that weren't handled fairly.

A Denial Doesn't Mean It's Over

Receiving a claim denial or a lowball estimate from your insurance company is frustrating — but it doesn't have to be the final answer. Many denied and underpaid claims can be successfully reopened, supplemented, or renegotiated when the right documentation and advocacy are brought to the table.

At ADVOIQ, denied and underpaid claims are one of the most common situations we work on. We review the carrier's decision, evaluate the policy language, assess the actual damage, and determine if there's a basis to push back.

Types of Claim Issues We Handle

Denied Claims

A claim denial can happen for many reasons — some legitimate, some not. Common denial reasons include:

  • Carrier argues the damage isn't covered under the policy
  • Carrier claims the damage is pre-existing or due to maintenance neglect
  • Carrier says the claim was filed too late
  • Carrier disputes the cause of loss

Not all denials are justified. Policy language is complex, and carriers sometimes deny claims that should be covered.

Underpaid Claims

This is the most common issue we see. The carrier acknowledges the claim but the estimate doesn't come close to the actual cost of repairs. Common reasons:

  • The scope is incomplete — rooms, areas, or damage categories are missing
  • The pricing is too low — software-generated estimates don't reflect local costs
  • Hidden damage is ignored — behind walls, under floors, in attics
  • Contents are undervalued — personal property is undercounted or over-depreciated
  • ALE is cut short — displacement costs are minimized

Delayed Claims

Carriers are required to process claims within specific timeframes. Extended delays — unreturned calls, repeated document requests, vague updates — may violate state regulations and can be challenged.

Supplemental Claims

When additional damage is discovered during repairs — mold behind drywall, rotted framing, damaged subfloor — you have the right to file a supplement. Carriers sometimes resist supplements, but they're a normal and expected part of the claims process.

Reopened Claims

Even if a claim was previously settled, it may be possible to reopen it if new damage is discovered or if the original settlement was insufficient. Time limits apply, so acting quickly is important.

The 6 Red Flags That Your Claim Needs a Second Look

1Big gap between your contractor's estimate and the carrier's — If the numbers are significantly different, the carrier's scope likely has gaps
2Partial denial — The carrier covers some damage but denies related portions
3Long delays with no clear explanation — Weeks of silence or vague responses
4Items missing from the estimate — Rooms, damage categories, or costs that aren't included
5Repeated requests for the same documentation — A potential delay tactic
6Repairs reveal additional damage — New damage found during construction that the carrier hasn't addressed
